Employee Engagement is a Two-Way Street

This is a guest post by Susan Thomson of ActionCOACH.

Did you know that 71% of all workers in the US are either unengaged or actively disengaged from their jobs? That means that a healthy majority of the workforce is just killing time when they are on your payroll. But it doesn’t have to be that way. You can create an environment where engagement comes naturally. And, engaged employees are between 42-70% more productive than unengaged employees.

This means that the potential to avoid having to hire more people, which is a challenge in today’s economy, may rest in just engaging the employees you have to let them be more productive.

And usually, all you have to do is ask!

But, there is one additional step that most of the training and development world misses, and that step is activation. It’s the difference between loading someone up with a ton of valuable, but not acted on, information, and teaching someone a skill that they can start to use immediately.

We occasionally get to work with companies on employee engagement and find it very rewarding when we can help them reconnect with their most important asset and ultimately have a direct bottom-line impact. In most scenarios, you’re able to create an amazing difference in your company’s training outcomes by a few simple changes in how you provide training.
